The story begins on July 1, 1962 in Cuba when a young man finds himself on a journey by himself that he thought he was going to take with his family. The authorities tell his family after a long wait that he was the only one allowed to go, the rest of the family needed to stay in Cuba. His family makes a courageous decision and send their 7-year-old son on an adventure in America to stay with friends they did not even know. Ralph De La Vega learns from that day that obstacles are made to be overcome. He was lucky enough to land with a family that cared from him just as if he was their own. He over came the language barrier, and went on to get a great education and became the CEO of ATT cellular book inspired me from the beginning, because I pictured a brave young 7-year-old walking into his future without his parents and though how brave and strong he was. I was inspired by the book, as he gave his goals and how he me them, at the same time he gave solid information on how to build your life and recover from your disappointments and obstacles. One of his vivid memories was hurricane Andrew. Andrew was the worst hurricane at the time in Florida, it had winds in excess of 100 miles an hour and dames was astronomical it caused billions of dollars in damages and immense lost of life. Yet he learned his biggest lesson ther. He learned if he took care of his people they would take care of the customers. fostering confidence in your workforce, increases your customer base. This is a new take on the customer is always right, and it is still true today. They set up a tent city for the employees of BellSouth where he was working at the time, and made sure all the Bell south employees and families had water, food and shelter. They promised they would be there for them and they were. Bell south employees went to work gladly knowing their worries were taken care of and were anxious to do their jobs.
